The Common Sense Party

At the June meeting of the Arlington, Virginia Townhall Chapter, members expressed their extreme disappointment with the choices offered by both of the major United States political parties.  Since activism is one of the hallmarks of this chapter, those attending the meeting decided on a project to develop a platform for a hypothetical third political party in the United States.

The name of this party is the Common Sense Party.

The party animal, taking its rightful place between the Donkey and the Elephant, it an Owl.

The platform will be developed as a cooperative effort in the Blogosphere.  Instead of using a wiki, which is a format that may be intimidating to the general user, this weblog will be used to develop the platform.

Each post will define one plank, or subject area for the party platform.  Readers are invited to contribute their ideas by making comments to the relevant post.  At regular intervals, the weblog administrators will confer with the chapter members and update the plank descriptions to include reader suggestions that strengthen the party platform.

The platform will address national core issues for which large segments of the American public express agreement.  Positions about lifestyle and morality issues will not be expressed in the general party platform, but rather will be deemed the province of individual candidate campaigns or states’ rights.

A list of weblogs sponsoring the development of this hypothetical third party is given in the right sidebar.
